There is something really fascinating about the drummers. Maybe it's because they give the feeling that they own the beat? Or maybe it's because they can make a song/band sound really good if they have an impeccable drumming skills, and in the same way, make it sound really bad if they miss a beat (or two)? However, comparing to the other musicians or members of the band, female drummers always were and still are a rare breed. But times are changing and actually, already nowadays, there are many excellent female drummers out there. Thinking that maybe we are just not aware of all those impressive ladies with drumsticks, I decided to do my bit and put more spotlight on them, like I will do in tonight's Gimme A Beat. One of the women responsible for making female drummers more prominent is without any doubt jazz/rock drummer Cindy Blackman. She has been considered as one of the top drummers in the world as well as one of the hottest drummers in the business. Always on the lookout for new music challenges, new ways to artistically express herself, being driven by her own passion, and desire to be free in her creativity, Cindy has been an inspiration for many female drummers and musicians in general.
