* Inspired by Euphoria *

Euphoria is an American adaptation of an Israeli show of the same name, and all episodes are written by Sam Levinson, who also serves as executive producer. The show is following a group of high school students as they navigate love and friendships in a world of drugs, sex, trauma and social media. The main focus is on troubled life of 17-year-old Rue (outstanding Zendaya), a drug addict fresh from rehab with no plans to stay clean. Her personal story develops together with storyline and through her intense emotional experiences we get to know her and the teenagers in her circle better. The show premiered on HBO in June 2019.

The show created lots of contradictory buzz, so i decided to check it out. I watched it in a one go, because I loved it from the opening scene. The visuals are stunning and together with great choice of music they perfectly support intense, powerful and emotionally heavy storylines. Zendaya is outstanding in the role of Rue, she is authentic and real, self destructive without being pathetic and so perfect for this role that I couldn't imagine anyone else than her. Later on I found out that Sam Levinson was struggling with his own drugs addiction since teenage years, which is probably one of the reasons why Rue is so realistic. Luckily Sam didn't stop there, all the other characters are well written and developed and they seem very real, even though some of them are typical high school teenage stereotypes.

I was not only impressed by the show's storyline and great cast, but with its music selection as well. This is all thanks to Jen Malone, music supervisor already known for doing many other great shows, who did an excellent job with Euphoria soundtrack.
