gimme a beat with babymonster
Originally from Novi Sad in Serbia, where her love of music developed and now based in Zurich, Babymonster has played in many clubs, bars as well as on underground parties and renegade events, mostly around Switzerland. To Babymonster, it doesn’t really matter where she plays as long as she is curious and likes the venue and opportunity – she just wants to make people dance and move to her sounds and if you look behind the decks, you’ll see her strutting her stuff too – it’s infectious! Babymonster is as authentic a music lover as you can get: armed with an obsessively extensive vinyl library and the willingness to pursue the full extents of her roots including the classic funk, soul, rock, new wave and old school hip hop, she only plays music she loves, whether it’s the well known classics, the latest tunes doing the round or new discoveries she has made and is sharing and championing. This can go from soul, r&b and old school hip hop, over 80’s, alternative, new wave to new indie rock bands to electro mixes of indie rock songs to electro punk, new rave and completely brand new music.
You may wonder why her DJ name is Babymonster – it’s quite simple. The name represents the type and variety of music she plays. One moment, it’s sweet Baby, but the next it’s raw ghetto style Monster.
Babymonster’s love and knowledge of music extends far beyond the dance-floor and is further witnessed by the fact that she is also a regular radio DJ/presenter on Switzerland’s very own Radio Lora, based in Zurich, where she presents a show called Gimme A Beat. Each show is based on her personal choice of subject matter, but always passionately focused around music and female artists that she believes in, supports and is inspired by and it is precisely this core theme of real enthusiasm in what she plays that makes the radio show and her live DJ sets so special. Two hours on the radio is never enough to satisfy Babymonster as she loves a wide variety of music and songs and so she takes her passion on the road, playing live sets, contagiously drawing her audience into her very own brand and taste of music.
